What happens at Pro7ect Songwriting Retreats?
What happens on the day?
“A friend suggested I go on a songwriting retreat… and it changed my life!”
- Lisa Fitz songwriter/producer/ P7 Creative Director
Residential Retreat itinerary: 20TH - 24TH MAY 2025
Day 1: Artists are asked to check in by 5pm for evening meal, ice-breaker, orientation, listening session & team introductions.
This arrival day is all about getting set-up, checked in, becoming familiar with the writing spaces, comfortable in the accommodation and a chance to meet your fellow artists and producers. We like to have a relaxed evening before we head into the writing days and daily routines. We will take you on a tour of Rockfield studios and their facilities, share an evening meal together and take a listen to some of the music together in the famous Quadrangle Studio, where Queen wrote and recorded ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
Day 2, 3, 4: Writing teams are announced at breakfast after which we start the morning session. The aim is to write and record a song a day in teams lead by one of the Pro7ect Headline Producers. Artists can write for someone in the room or to professional tip sheets provided by P7.
A help-yourself lunch is provided. Evening meal & listening session concludes the day…
These consecutive writing days are incredibly intense, totally inspiring and hugely satisfying. Your job is to participate in the creative process of writing a song a day in your team to share with the group that evening. Three writing days - three songs. Due to the expertise of our headline producers the songs written at Pro7ect are often released by the artists after the event. Access to all session stem’s and audio is available to the writers after the event.
Day 5: Artists are asked to check out by 11am (after breakfast)
The morning of Day 5 is a sad day indeed. After being in the Rockfield bubble and making firm creative friendships with the other writers and producers, leaving is a hard act. You will, however, depart Pro7ect with more than just a memory… you will have access to three songs written and mixed by professionals to either continue with in post-production or share with fans, friends and family. You will leave with a collaborative community of firm friends in the music industry that you can continue working with, you will go forth into the world with an experience, knowledge and confidence that you’ve earned and learned over the week.
Artists applying for the residential retreats need to have some songwriting experience to attend this event.
“P7 is an experience like no other. A few days being absorbed in the P7 camp is a priceless opportunity for anyone looking to become an artist, songwriter or producer. No matter the experience, everyone has something to give and absorb in this ultimate form of creative collaboration.”
- Gethin Pearson, Pro7ect Headline Producer (Charlie XCX, Badly Drawn Boy)
Masterclass itinerary: Saturday 24TH MAY 2025, 10am - 4pm.
Day only: Artists are asked to arrive at Rockfield’s Quadrangle Studio before 10am for tea/coffee before the session begins.
This Masterclass it is the perfect start, or continuation, of your songwriting adventure. Pro7ect Masterclasses offer artists of all levels of experience the opportunity to ask questions, learn your craft, gain songwriting & production tips and techniques, build your confidence in the studio and experience collaborative songwriting in the studio where Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody was written and recorded.
Morning session will cover collaboration songwriting techniques and basic studio etiquette. The group will break into teams to work on a collaborative song in the session. Lunch at 1pm.
We ask that you get there before the 10am session starts so you can relax with the team and get familiar with the studio before the Masterclass begins. Every Masterclass is totally different as they are fluid experiences that rely on the input and enthusiasm of the participating artists, as much as the headline producers.
Afternoon Session will focus on recording the idea’s composed in the morning session covering basic recording & studio skills.
This is where you get the real studio experience. We will be tracking the music written in the morning session, sharing with you the production idea’s and processes used to get a song from our heads onto tape. So many things are possible and you will learn so much just by being in the room.
Masterclass finishes at 4pm.
Applicants do not need to have any songwriting or studio experience to attend this event.
