Pro7ect And Rockfield Studios Announce 2024 Songwriting Retreat dates and details.

Rockfield, the iconic Studio on the farm and home of Pro7ect residential songwriting retreats, will play host to another phenomenal week of music collaboration from 16th - 20th July 2024.

In this month’s Session Notes blog, Pro7ect Songwriting Retreats founder and songwriter Lisa Fitzgibbon announces the
Headline Producer details, and early bird offers for P724.

“Here we go again… bringing talented artists and producers together to collaborate at the musical Mecca that is Rockfield is such a privilege, and we are excited to return next year to make more incredible music.” - Lisa Fitzgibbon.

Last July 28 songwriters gathered from around the world to write and record 15 new songs at the UK’s premier residential songwriting camp. Now in our 9th year, Pro7ect’s huge success lies in our ability to pair artists and songwriters with internationally acclaimed music producers who guide the daily songwriting teams and lead the recording and music production process.

“Something inspiring happens when you put a musician in a room where they know their heroes have been… sixty years of heritage just comes out of the walls (at Rockfield), and it’s a wonderful, inspiring place to be.”- Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Mel C) P7 Headline Producer in 2022.

Since its launch in 2014, Pro7ect has brought together over 180 artists, songwriters, musicians, and producers, who have written and recorded more than 100 tracks at their residential retreats.

Our 2024 Headline Producers will include:

Stew Jackson
Massive Attack & Phantom Limb.

“The Pro7ect thing is all about being thrown in at the deep end. It’s perfect for people who are navigating what it is to write with other people, or adding strings to the bow, is a baptism of fire; there is a lot of fast talking, a lot of getting to know each other very, very quickly - which I quite like - and most importantly, it's a fun thing to do. I'm very much looking forward to it.”
– Stew Jackson

Sophie Ackroyd
Kings Elliot, lleo, RØRY, Kate Wild, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Call Me Loop, Beth McCarthy, Future Cut and Nina Nesbitt.

"Every time I take part in a songwriting camp, I'm amazed at what the combination of collaboration, time pressure and environment can bring out of you creatively. To be able to do that at such an iconic studio as Rockfield is beyond exciting and I can't wait to see what music is made at Project 7 this year." – Sophie Ackroyd

Gethin Pearson
Badly Drawn Boy, Charlie XCX.

“I’m excited to return to Pro7ect songwriting camp as I really enjoy collaborating with other songwriters and artists. Having the opportunity to work alongside other producers is also exciting because production can be a very lonely business and it’s rare to have so much recording talent in the same place at the same time. That’s the great thing about Pro7ect – they give you a chance to share ideas and help new artists and songwriters develop their skills.”- Gethin Pearson

Julian Victor Hinton
Stormzy, Seal, Rod Stewart, Robbie Williams, Trevor Horn and Don Black.

“Project 7 retreats are so uplifting, and so positive. I’m looking forward to seeing more smiles as artists ideas are born and come to life, to more chats about all things creative and musical and to writing and recording more amazing songs!” - Julian Victor Hinton

But where does the music go? Since our first retreat in 2014, Pro7ect is building a reputation for our quality output, with many songs going on to further production and release. We have had several syncs already, and many albums and music projects have been produced by artists amongst the P7 Alumni network.

One of our more recent success stories is the song written at Pro7ect’s 2018 camp will be on Mercury Music prize winner Talvin Singh’s next album. Talvin who was a Headline Producer that year, performed ‘Hold Me’ with the P7 Featured Artist Bev Lee Harling at his Talvin Singh and Friends concerts in 2022/23.

It’s working! We started P7 because we wanted to facilitate opportunities for professional and aspiring music creators. We wanted to help build strong working relationships and professional networks, and after 9 years it feels like we are getting somewhere! These things take time, and the quality of the output from the camps speaks for itself.

“I had attended songwriting retreats before but was excited by Pro7ect because of the iconic Rockfield studios and having a producer, and other artists, in the room. It was a great experience” – Kevin Jakeman P723 songwriter/musician.

This four-day residential retreat (16th – 20th July) is designed for artists with some songwriting and recording experience. Artists are required to submit examples of their music in their application.
